Natural drinking straws vs plastic

Natural drinking straws vs Plastic?

Natural drinking straws have become increasingly popular as an alternative to plastic straws, which have been a major contributor to plastic pollution. Plastic straws are not biodegradable and can take hundreds of years to decompose. They end up in the ocean, causing harm to marine life, and are a major environmental problem. But why do we keep using them?

Plastic straws are still widely used due to their convenience and low cost.

-They are not biodegradable and are a major environmental problem
-They contribute to plastic pollution
-They harm marine life
-They contain harmful chemicals that can leach into your drink
-They are not reusable and need to be discarded after one use

On the other hand, natural drinking straws fair much better:

-They are biodegradable and sustainable
-They offer an eco-friendly alternative to plastic straws
-They come in a variety of materials and designs
-They are safe and chemical-free
-They don’t harm the environment
-They are durable
-They offer a unique twist to your favourite beverages
-They can be used for both hot and cold drinks

Water grass drinking straws & wheat drinking straws are certainly a more sustainable option as they are (respectively) recyclable and garden compostable and do not harm the environment in the same way as plastic straws. But we’ll discuss this towards the end.

For now, we’ll tell you a bit more about these straws and why it’s a great idea to use them.

Water Grass straws

Our water grass straws are affectionately known as “nature’s drinking straws”. A best-choice alternative to plastic straws. They are made from Lepironia Articulata, an organically grown and naturally occurring water grass from the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. It is  an organically grown product which is hand-picked by local farmers. These lands cannot be used for other crops thus providing vital employment to local farming communities.

The really cool part of our grass straws is that they are 100% garden and food waste compostable. Within just three months, they return to the earth as nutrient-dense soil. The process is equivalent to an autumn leaf falling on the ground.

The best part of our water grass straws is that they don’t go soggy in your drink! In fact they re-hydrate as you use them.

Wheat straws

We’re sure you’re tired of paper straws going soggy in your drink, right? And don’t get me started on that awful taste! Our wheat straws are a fantastic alternative to plastic or bioplastic drinking straws. They are made from the stem of the wheat plant so are even gluten-free! The great thing about our wheat straws is that they are 100% garden and food waste compostable and return to the earth as soil within 3 months. And even better news is that our natural drinking straws won’t harm the earth. How cool is that?

Ok, here we go. Plastic.

Stopping the use of plastic drinking straws is one way to reduce plastic pollution and protect the environment. Plastic straws are a significant source of plastic waste, as they are often used for a short period of time before being discarded, and can take hundreds of years to biodegrade. Instead, they can end up in the ocean, where they can harm marine life.

Many countries  have already banned plastic straws or are encouraging the use of alternatives, such as grass, wheat, rice or sugarcane straws, which are more environmentally friendly. Additionally, some people prefer to drink without a straw or bring their own reusable straws.

Reducing the use of plastic straws is a small step that can make a big difference in the fight against plastic pollution.

Conclusion

When it comes to choosing alternative natural drinking straws, the decision ultimately comes down to personal preference as long as you stop using plastic. Any type of natural drinking straw has a minimal impact on the environment when compared with plastic straws.
